First aerotow launch! Really hard work compared to which launch. I need to get a good feel for what the glider is doing in the first few seconds: wings level, balanced aircraft on the main wheel and let it fly of. Once up to about 100mtr I got the hang of flying behind the towplane and things settle down a bit. Instructor demonstrated the high and low tow position. We prefer the high position apparently. Found some weak lift after release and flew that up to cloud base at 750mtr. Side slipped back to 300mtr. Instructor showed me how to move the stick in diagonal way to control the direction of the slip. Forward and left to correct to the left, back and to the right to correct to the opposite side (in a right wing low slip). It takes more time for the direction to change than I thought, about 5 seconds. So I need to be a bit more patient when trying to steer the side slip. |
